Triune Chapter #344 OES was instituted on January 22, 1912. Sister Emma Evans of Stella Chapter and Brother William Clarke of Palestine Chapter were instrumental in bringing an Eastern Star Chapter to south Toledo. The Chapter was sponsored by Calumet Lodge #612 F&AM and associated with a nearby Chapter of Royal Arch Masons. Thus, the name "Triune" was selected. Of the sixty-five signers of the Dispensation, twenty-six were Masonic Brothers and only five were current members of the Order, including Sister Emma and Brother William.
Sister Emma and Brother William presided as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron during Triune's year Under Dispensation, a year that ended with seventy-five enrolled members. They encouraged excellence in ritualistic work and Triune has continued this tradition over the years. The Charter was presented to Sister Emma at Grand Chapter in Dayton on October 23, 1912.
Sister Emma was an accomplished seamstress working mostly in embroidery and quilting. She made our first American and OES flags and our original Chaplain's stole. The stars from this stole have been placed on every Chaplain's stole used since, including the current one created this year in honor of our Worthy Grand Matron, Sister Gail Walsh.
During the depression, Sister Emma started the practice of helping members in need pay their dues, so that they would not lose their membership. In 1946, a year after Sister Emma's death, the Emma Evans Fund was started. To this day, Triune continues to pay the dues of members in need from this Fund.
In September 2007, Triune moved to the Browning Masonic Community in Waterville, OH. In April 2008. Grand Rapids Chapter #356 voted to merge with Triune. In 2012, we celebrated our 100th anniversary.
