WM Joan read a letter home from her travels. She camped near Magness Lake and saw the trumpeter swans. She camped in the Crater of Diamonds State Park, where a 40 caret diamond named "Uncle Sam" was found. She visited a National Park located entirely within city limits, taking a tour of the lake in a WWII era duck boat and visiting one of the 47 protected springs. In 1832, President Andrew Jackson made the area the first ever federal reserve. The present bath houses were erected in the early 1900's. Two springs still allow visitors to bathe in the water. During Sunshine, the Organist played "Ring of Fire". Where was she? Under Good of the Order, Gail Walsh was the first to guess "Arkansas". During Closing Remarks, members were asked to identify famous native sons from pairs provided and WP Jimmie shared with us information about the pronunciation of "Arkansas". Pictured: Gail Walsh |

WM Joan read a letter home from her travels. She was visiting a city with street artists, street musicians, human statues, and walk-up bars and cafes. She had an oyster po-boy for lunch and took a mule-driven carriage ride by the exotic shop of Marie Laveau, the Blacksmith Shop, and many historic buildings. She took a ride on the paddle wheeler Natchez up the river past the Domino Sugar factory. Her trip concluded with a visit to the "Cities of the Dead". During Sunshine, the Organist played "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans". Where was she? This was an easy one, as Brage Elliott called out "New Orleans" before WM Joan even finished her letter home! During Closing Remarks, WM Joan shared information about New Orleans' mobile National Landmark, the St. Charles streetcar line. Pictured: Brage Elliott |

WM Joan read a letter home from her travels. She was staying at a 25 space RV park perched on the edge of the Lavendar Pit copper mine. Across the street is the hometown of one of her favorite authors; she had fun visiting the landmarks mentioned in her "Joanna Brady" books, such as the Copper Queen Hoel and Brewery Gulch. She toured Kartchner Caverns, "the town too tough to die", area wineries, and the "Land of Standing Up Rocks" monument. During Sunshine, the Organist played "By the Time I Get to Phoenix". Where was she? PGM Gail Walsh was the first to call out "Arizona". During Closing Remarks, WM Joan gave us a True/False quiz and WP Jimmie shared "Betcha' Didn't Know" facts about Arizona. After the meeting, WM and "master of all things origami" Joan taught us how to make a heart out of a dollar bill. These are great to hand out as gifts at Valentine's Day. Thanks for sharing your talents with us! Pictured (top): PGM Gail Walsh Pictured (bottom): Denise Moomey, Robert Roesler, Joan Draper, Joan Moomey, Jeanne Roesler |

We were thrilled to initiate and welcome two new members: John Hoffman and Robin Webb Hoffman. John is the Senior Warden of Rubicon Lodge. Robin comes from a Masonic family. Congratulations! WM Joan read a letter home from her travels. She and Ed had toured the Jelly Belly factory. Ed was not impressed, so they went on to tour the Petaluma brewery and brewpubs in Hopland, Fortuna, and Blue Lake. The forests are breathtaking and they saw a huge herd of Roosevelt elk. During Sunshine, our Organist played "San Fernando Valley". During Good of the Order, Trevor Hudgins was the first to guess "California". WM Joan shared a couple "Betcha' didn't know" facts about California. After the meeting, we played a Trivia game and unscrambled the names of California cities. Debi Huffman took 1st place with 7 out of 10 correct. Robin Webb Hoffman came in 2nd with 5. Despite the snow, we still had 8 turn out for our "Evening of Crafts". We had 6 members: Joan Draper, Denise Moomey, Betty Heninger, Sue Spore, Debi Huffman, and Robin Webb Hoffman. Our guests were Janet Erickson and Carol McElfresh. We tackled various craft projects, including paper towel bunnines, Easter cards, and origami carrots, hens, and bunnies. There were lots of laughs. Maybe we'll try this again, when the weather is more cooperative. |

WM Joan read a letter home from her travels. From her window, she could see the Oglala Sioux Chief monument carved out of the mountain, which, when finished, will be the largest statue in the world. They visited the museum, purchased native crafts, and saw a hoop dance performance. The previous week, they drove the Iron Mountain Rd and saw all kinds of wild life in Custar State Park. Their next stop is the indoor Mammoth Site, an active paleon...tological dig. During Good of the Order, Lee Ann Eicher and Bob Wymer were the first to guess "South Dakota". WM Joan shared a couple "Betcha' didn't know" facts about South Dakota. After the meeting, we had a "purse and pocket" scavenger hunt. The Yellow Team led by Virginia Dunn won with 22 of 25 items found. Pictured at top: Lee Ann EIcher Pictured at bottom: Karen Ruscoe, Virginia Dunn, Jimmie Walsh, Justine Dyer |
